Hello,
I am Bob a guy who was balding, and unhappy about it because I’m WAY too young to lose all my hair. I have tried almost every product marketed for hairloss. If you’re like me and you’re searching for a magic product that will regrow your hair by tomorrow or at least keep the hair you have, read on. You need to be more informed.

SHAVE YOUR HEAD OR RE-GROW YOUR HAIR?
Most people who are losing their hair want to go beyond just stopping the hair loss. Once the hair is lost we look for a hair loss product that can grow the lost hair back, or many of us throw in the towel, shave our heads and grow facial hair to stay looking younger. I’m not really an athlete, so shaving my head was a pretty rough option. I look like I’m sick, and beyond that my skull is quite un even (flat spot on the back). I am a pretty geeky looking guy and I look even geekier when I shave my head.
THE PRODUCTS I USED
You’ll save a lot of time and money by learning from my experience and research with the products I have used. My progression was fairly close to what you would expect, the first products I used did not work, I went back and did a little more research and found some products that were fairly neutral. Finally I found some hairloss products that did work. You’ll be informed enough to decide whats best for you after this:
HAIR LOSS PRODUCTS BALDING TEST*
Spironolactone – One of the side effects of steroid use is hair loss caused by an excess build up of DHT in the scalp. Obviously this is a huge problem for shady pro athletes and body builders, who found that spironolactone effectively blocked DHT in the hair follicles when applied directly to the scalp. Rub it on your scalp and your follicles are protected from hair killing DHT, awesome right?
Not so much… The problem is that it comes in a roll on deodorant casing, which you use on your head. It had to be applied multiple times per day, and the roller mechanism would painfully rip out some of my hairs during application.EVEN WORSE was the smell. At first I could have lived with the painful, frequent and annoying application, but the smell reminded me of a skunk. The kind of smell you get hints of and have to find where its coming from. I attempted to only use it at night but this strategy fell through on the weekends. The reason I wanted to regrow hair in the first place was totally fueled by the desire to look great. If you’re a single guy and you’re looking for a single girl the smell of spironolactone will not work (unless you’re Pepe LePew).
I kept the hair I had while using spironolactone, but there was no noticeable regrowth for me while using it.
*Hair Transplant Surgery – I actually studied this method first. Basically they remove a section of skin from the back of your neck and remove the hair follicles. The hair follicles are then surgically implanted in the spots where you are bald. This has been a major improvement in appearance over hair plugs. As we all know our body hair, and the hair around the back of our crowns is much more resilient when attacked by DHT, so it will stay in the bald spots. Due to the very expensive cost and the time needed for multiple visits this option really WAS NOT an option for me.
*Minoxidil (marketed as Rogaine) – This product has been around for a while and there is a lot of information available on the website. I ran into a lot of the same problems as using spironolactone with the applications. I bought the Minoxidil Rogaine and started using it every morning and night as directed. The directions said to rub the topical solution directly onto my bald spots. This worked great for a few weeks, but a late night here or there, or just falling asleep before I had a chance to put it on set me back and I couldn’t stick with the process.
Another problem with the application was having to blow dry my hair and scalp bone dry after showering before using Rogaine (Minoxidil). The time it took to complete all of this and the nasty feeling it left on my hair were just too much. There was an occasion where a girl who touched my hair kind of freaked out.
So after a few solid weeks of use and a few weeks of scattered use I started losing even more hair. Part of Rogaine’s FAQ says that you will lose a LOT of your hair during the first 2 months. I can’t make any definitive statements on rogaine since I did not stick with it for the twice a day every day super long duration they suggested. It just did not work for me.
*Propecia (Finasteride) – I was most excitied about trying this treatment, as it had been most promising in studies. But there was the hassle of getting the propecia prescription and the costs involved with that. The Real downdside comes in the side effects. It sounds perfect, see your doctor then take a pill everyday and your hair will stop falling out and some will even grow back. Generally 80% of people taking propecia stop losing their hair. So after a stint in the waiting room and some quality time with my doctor, as well as my pharmacist I popped my pill and headed home.
As the Propecia built up in my body, my sex drive evaporated. Libido GONE! I was dating at the time and lost all motivation. Not being able to get an erection during sex only happens a few times before you’re not dating anymore. How embarrassing. I’m in pretty good shape and have a lot of testosterone (hence my hair loss) I did not expect this. I was unaware it could be caused by Propecia, and returned to my doctor to see why a young guy might have erectile dysfunction problems. At this time he told me Propecia can cause erectile dysfunction. I got really lucky, once I stopped using propecia my sex drive and erections returned. There are cases where 2-3 years later impotence induced by propecia persists.
*Nizoral Shampoo – Once I regained my boner I vowed no more pills! A friend who is losing his hair swore by the stuff It is sold over the counter and it HELPED stop my hair loss. It should only be used 2 times per week as it dries out your scalp very badly. It helps keep your hair from falling out but won’t re-grow hair, SO I began using it twice a week in conjunction with Provillus, which I detail below.
*Procerin – I found an ad online for procerin, and purchased a 4 month supply. The Nizoral shampoo was keeping my hair loss in check but I needed a product to regrow my hair that wasn’t too expensive. It is an all natural product, so I wasn’t too worried about impotence, or losing my libido, I wanted the ease of using an oral tablet. When the four month supply ran out I did not see any regrowth of hair. The Nizoral had already stopped my hair loss, so I needed another product.
*Scalp Med – Scalp med has the same ingredient as Rogaine: Minoxidil. I purchased 4 months worth not knowing this, and it re grew my hair really well. I switched to the next product because it used the same ingredient, worked better and was less expensive.
*Provillus – After researching the ingredient list in Scalp Med I decided to look for less expensive alternatives with similar ingredients. A lot of online forums were discussing a new product on the market: Provillus. There were a large number of positive testimonials from people who tried it, so I decided to give it a shot.
Provillus is convenient oral tablets whose ingredients were very similar to scalp med. The tablets use natural ingredients (ingredient list) to combat DHT which thins and kills your hair. Thank god this didn’t have any of the libido draining side effects of Propecia (and it won’t get you banned from the Olympics like poor Zach).
The two main components of Provillus are Azelaic acid and Minoxildil, the latter being the primary ingredient in Rogaine and Scalp Med. Which relieves the mess and hassle of twice a day applications and with great results. The Aezelaic acid kills the bacteria which inflames the hair follicles and helps to repair the lining. While this alone will not regrow hair, it helps the Minoxidil really do it’s thing.
Even though Scalp Med and Provillus are very similar, the COST is vastly different. Scalp med’s 6 month supply comes in at a total of $385.vs. Provillus 6 month supply $159.95!!!!
It was a simple choice for me, Provillus is very similar, but costs less than half as much as other treatments. But the real question is the results, Provillus worked so well that I decided to buy a years supply (6 months x2) and it was still cheaper than 6 months of Scalp Med. Compared to everything else I tried it just worked better.
While using this product there has been a progression of hair growth, starting with lighter fuzzy hair on the top of my head and frontal hairline which later begin to grow in darker and stronger. Now the very front parts of my crown are still pretty bald, but after some research I found that those are the hardest parts to regrow hair. However my hairline is filling in and it is taking years off my look (still waiting to be carded again?!).
Long story short I would recommend using Nizoral Shampoo twice a week and using the Provillus as suggested. The combinations of Azelaic acid, Zinc, and Vitamin B6 will work together to block DHT and repair the follicle linings.
WHAT IS THE BEST HAIR GROWTH PRODUCT?
From my experience the best product to regrow your hair is Minoxidil. Most of the other products are a scam, and Minoxidil is one of only 2 FDA approved treatments for hair loss. In combination with Saw Palmetto and azelaic acid Provillus has had a huge effect on hair regrowth, awesome stuff.
I’m a cheap guy, so cost was a huge factor for me, but I also LOVE the money back guarantee. I gave Provillus a try because you have nothing to lose. I actually ordered the 4 bottle (month) supply and got two free bottles. I’m not sure if they’re still running this offer, but it saved me a TON. You should also go out and buy some Nizoral Shampoo and use that every other day, (it will really help you in the beginning.)
I loved the money back guarantee.
I would recommend:
